Domain Rating is not Domain Authority

Domain Rating, or DR, is Ahrefs' estimate of a website's backlink profile strength on a logarithmic 0 to 100 scale. Domain Authority, or DA, is a separate Moz metric. The names sound similar, but their indexes and calculations are not interchangeable.

Compare websites in the same market

There is no universal good Domain Rating. A DR of 30 can be strong in one narrow market and weak in another. Compare sites that compete for similar topics, audiences, and links, then inspect the referring domains behind the score.

Domain Rating does not predict one page's rank

DR describes a domain-level backlink profile. It does not measure page relevance, content quality, technical accessibility, search intent, or the links pointing to one specific URL. A lower-DR site can outrank a higher-DR site for an individual query.

Find backlink opportunities

Check competitors, publications, directories, and potential partners. Comparing their Domain Ratings can help you decide which backlink opportunities deserve a closer look first. The link evidence report adds representative backlinks and referring-domain totals when a score deserves closer inspection.
